1. Guides:
In Yangon: Mr. Aung Myo Win - very good, experienced guide
In Mandalay: Mr. Myint Naing (Power) - again a very good guide, no problems
In Inle Lake: Ms. Nang Aye Nyein Ei - a delightful young lady, she was fantastic, her spoken English and knowledge of English was excellent. She was a pleasure to be with, we really enjoyed her company and nothing was too much trouble for her. The best guide we have ever had.
2. Accommodation:
In Yangon: Chatrium Hotel - Large hotel, no problems with room. Food only average.
In Bagan: Bagan Hotel - Very quiet while we were there (just what we like). Room was Ok. Garden selling lovely. Outdoor restaurant had amazing views, one of the most picturesque restaurants I have been too. Food only average though.
In Mandalay: Mandalay Hill Resort - Large western style hotel full of western tourists. Room Ok, Restaurant food once again not so good.
In Pindaya: Pindaya Inle Inn - lovely small inn, only 6 other guests while we were there. Room comfortable, lovely setting. Excellent massage available. Restaurant decor was lovely. Best bread we have eaten anywhere in Asia. Home cooked feel about the meals, very nice.
In Inle Lake: Inle Resort - Great location for a hotel. Room comfortable lovely decor. Staff excellent as in all the other places we stayed. Once again we found the food only average.
I found all the hotel beds to be more soft and comfortable than the ones we had last time in Vietnam etc.
3. Transport (Land, water and air):
Cars were old but very clean, well kept and comfortable. All of the drivers we had did a great job. The roads were terrible, mostly single strip of bitumen and full of potholes so only travelled at slow speeds. Driving on the right hand side of the road in right hand drive cars was crazy but the drivers seemed to cope well.
Airports were basic and all seemed to have their own rules and regulations, didn’t understand how things worked but everything went smoothly and we had no problems at all.
Going around Inle Lake by long boat was fantastic, we loved it.
4. Restaurants:
All the restaurants the guides took us to for lunch were great. The guides chose and ordered all the food for us (didn’t know what some of it was). We always ate local Myanmar food and loved it.
5. Places you visited:
Inle lake was a definite highlight followed by the amazing sights in Bagan. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere of Pindaya. The pagoda in Yangon was breathtaking and the trip down the river in Mandalay was great. We enjoyed everything.
6. Design and management of your tour:
Everything went according to plan, not one problem. In hindsight we wished that we had stayed longer, I’m sure there are many more places to see and visit. I think we covered all the main areas.
7. Are there any recommendations or criticisms of services, restaurants, shops, visit sites and so on that you’ve visited on your own?
We found the money a problem and not being able to use visa card. Knowing how much to take was a concern and how much to change to kyats, i was apprehensive about spending in case we ran out of funds.
Please send us an email if you wish to have the itinerary of Mrs. and Mr. Wilson as reference.
