Northern Frontier 12 Days

Day 1: Yangon arrival (G)

On arrival in Yangon, you will be met and driven to your hotel for a short rest. In the afternoon, you will visit the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda of Rudyard Kipling fame and one of Myanmar’s most sacred places. You will spend the night in Yangon.

Day 2: Yangon/Putao (B, L, D, G)

After breakfast at hotel, you will board your flight to Putao (via Mandalay, Myitkyina). Upon arrival at Putao, you will be transferred to a guest house. If time permits, you will walk to a Lisu village along the paddy field. Overnight accommodation will be in a Putao guesthouse.

Day 3: Putao/Upper Shangaung/Wasandam (B, L, D, G)

A moring drive by Jeep will take you to Upper Shangaung. Along the way, you will pass by six villages by where Lisu and Rawan tribes inhibit. Upon arrival, you will start the trek to Wasandam; a small village home to Rawan village nestles along the Namlan creek. Lunch will be on the way. The trek today is around 21 km (approx: 6 hrs). Your overnight accommodation will be in the village.

Day 4: Wasandam/Ziyadam (B, L, D, G)

After an early breakfast, you will set of your journey to Ziyadam, the last nothernmost frontier village, is mainly a Rawan tribe. Today trek would be a little easier than the previous day as the landscape is mostly flat and few ups/downs. You will pass Awadum village after 7km trek in 2hrs.

After lunch in the village, you will continue the trek for 2hrs and at the end of the suspension bridge saw the Ziyadam village. You will spend the night in the village.

Day 5: Ziyadam/Wasandam (B, L, D, G)

Today, you will say farewell to the villagers and trek back in different way. The trek today will be around 6km from Ziyadam which is Khalang village surrounded by rice fields and mountains. The village is known for its walnut and persimmon. Arrival in Wasandam, you will have time to wander around the village before dinner. You will spend the night in the village.

Day 6: Wasandam/Upper Shaugaung/Putao (B, L, D, G)

Today, you will trek back to Upper Shangaung and then have a car to drive you back to Putao where you will spend the night.

Day 7: Putao/Mulashidi/Machanbaw (B, L, D, G)

After breakfast, you will visit the attractive Putao Market which is full of colorful tribes such as Kachin, Lisu, Rawan, etc. You will then drive to Mulashidi and have free time to take pictures at the suspension bridge in crystal clear water. After that, you will be back to Putao and proceed to Machanbaw by car and visit to stone-dragon and sightseeing in small town. You will spend the night in a guesthouse in Machabaw.

Day 8: Namkhan/Htawadan/Putao (B, L, D, G)

After breakfast, you will trek to Namkhan village (10km). After lunch, you will continue 3 further miles to Kaungmulone Pagoda, which is most revered Pagoda in the north. In the late afternoon, you will be driven back to Putao and spend the night in Putao guest house.

Day 9: Putao/Myitkyina (B, L, D, G)

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Putao airport for your flight to Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State. After checking in at the hotel, you will tour around Myitkyina with busy local market on the Strand Road.

After lunch, you will drive to Win Maw, a Kachin village to see the beautiful scenery of Ayeywarwaddy River and crops cultivation along the road. You will spend the night at the hotel in Myitkyina.

Day 10: Excursion to confluence of Ayeyarwaddy (B, L, D, G)

After breakfast, you will drive to the confluence of River Ayeyarwaddy, 45 km north of Myitkyina. The mighty Ayeyarwaddy begins here and enjoy the panoramic view of the confluence. On the way back, you will drop by Karing-Naw resort to relax with a Kachin 'Churu' ( Kachin local spirit) and visit Kachin villages to see traditional back strap weaving of Kachin Longi (sarong) and shoulder bags. If time permits, you will visit native Orchid garden where you can see the famous "black orchid" and naturally dwelling bee hives at water tank which is the main source of water supply for Myitkyina. In the late afternoon, you will drive back to Myitkyina and overnight at the hotel.

Day 11: Myitkyina/Yangon (B, G)

Free time until transferred to the airport for a noon flight back to Yangon (via Mandalay). The rest of the day will be free. You will spend the night in Yangon.

Day 12: Yangon departure (B, GP)

Free time for exploring Yangon, shopping and packing your luggages until transferred to the airport for departure flight. Tour ends.
